All eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway were closed Monday morning as police investigated a fatal pre-dawn crash, according to Suffolk County police.

Authorities had closed the LIE lanes at Broadhollow Road in Melville due to the investigation.

Police said that the accident occurred around 05:00 in the morning. Lanes were closed from morning rush hour until noon. The roads were reopened around 12:00.

Police confirmed a male driver went off the road and crashed into trees near the Route 110 overpass. He was declared dead.

According to the police, 4 passengers were injured in the accident. 2 of the injured were seriously injured.
