HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A woman is in critical condition after being shot during an overnight robbery.

Police said a man who was with the woman was also shot. It is expected to be good.

The shooting occurred around 1:15 a.m. Monday outside a dance studio on Sunset Boulevard, just east of Kirby Drive, in the Southampton neighborhood near Rice Village.

As the man and woman walked to their car, a man exited the vehicle, robbed them and shot both victims in the abdomen, according to Houston police.

Both victims were taken to hospital. Police said the man’s condition was stable and the woman underwent surgery.

Investigators believe the suspect followed the man and woman before the robbery and shooting. Police said the suspect fled the scene in a white vehicle and fled with some of the victims’ belongings, including a watch and jewelry.

“As far as we know, they were visiting a location. This is a dance studio. We’re not sure if they were coming from the studio, or if they went somewhere with friends, had dinner, and then were dropped off. We’re still getting information. There’s a little more detail on that,” Lt. G. Gutierrez said.

A detailed description of the suspect or the white vehicle he was in was not immediately available.
