Wyoming-Colorado State Predictions, Picks and Best Bets for College Football Week 12

Wyoming is starting to show signs of life with RB Harrison Waylee healthy, and while Colorado State is good, it doesn’t expect a win whose key metrics match the double-digit margin.

Wyoming-Colorado State prediction and best bet

Who will win the Wyoming-Colorado State match?

Colorado State Rams Come mid-November, they sit undefeated in conference play. They aren’t dominant from an analytical standpoint (91st in EPA per play on offense, 68th on defense) but they still have the benefit of a manageable schedule.

Week 12 brings more of the same with a drop Wyoming Cowboys After both teams had a bye week, the team hit the road. It’s understandable why the Rams are big favorites.

my analysis

The Cowboys and Rams play in the annual Border War game for the right to the Bronze Boots. What is the best bet in this matchup?

I grit my teeth and take 10 points from Wyoming. Of course, this season has not been great, but 10 points in a competitive match is too much for me to ignore.

Wyoming metrics are skewed from a tough non-conference slate blown by Arizona State, BYU and North Texas. There is no shame in this; BYU is 9-0 and Arizona State is 7-2 in College Football Playoff action, and North Texas is averaging 36.6 points per game.

It’s been a learning curve for first-year head coach Jay Sawvel, but his team has slowly started to look better during conference play. The Cowboys had two wins (Air Force, New Mexico) and three losses by an average of five points, with none exceeding 10 points.

Star running back Harrison Waylee was out for the first nine weeks of the year due to injury; It’s a big blow considering he had 3,298 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in his career. He returned in Week 10 and immediately continued his workhorse usage with 27 carries for 170 yards and a score.

Waylee was always thought to be the focal point of the offense, so having him on the roster is a huge boost. He should continue to look like his true self after the bye week.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Kaden Anderson has also helped improve the offense of late, completing 35 of 54 pass attempts (66%) in the past two games, throwing for 524 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Wyoming has been lackluster offensively for most of the year, but Anderson’s 9.9 yards per attempt and Waylee’s return are huge improvements.

Colorado State has been impressive, but its metrics don’t jump off the page and it’s only beaten one FBS opponent by more than 10 points. This is a competitive game played in cold conditions and not too far from Laramie, so this spot doesn’t scream “boom” to me.

Wyoming – Colorado State same game matchup (SGP)

Wyoming +9.5

Harrison Waylee always TD

Avery Morrow 80+ rushing yards

It will be a cold night at Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium, with temperatures predicted to be 48 degrees at kickoff and as cold as 39 degrees later in the game. Neither ad hoc attack has set the world on fire, and impetuous attacks are expected to lead the way.

Waylee is his team’s best offensive weapon and will be needed here against a Colorado State defense that allowed 1,302 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. The Rams have only played two strong offensive teams this year, Texas and Oregon State, and they combined for 442 yards and eight rushing scores.

While Wyoming isn’t on the same level as those teams, Waylee is an extremely productive college and projects a high usage rate. A week ago, Nevada rushed for 189 yards and two scores at Colorado State, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Cowboys saw a similar streak.

Avery Morrow has been a big part of the Rams’ offensive game plan, especially since the passing attack disrupted star receiver Tory Horton. He rushed for 788 yards and eight scores and will need to do all the work he can against a Wyoming defense that ranks 125th in EPA per rush and 131st in offensive explosiveness.
