A man has been arrested after a motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash in the New Forest, police said.

The incident involved a black Honda motorcycle and a vehicle with white and red goods at the junction of the A337 and A35, Gosport Lane, at Lyndhurst.

Officers were called at 12.35am on Friday and the motorcyclist, a New Milton man in his 60s, remained in hospital.

A 52-year-old man from Bognor Regis, West Sussex, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the man had been released under investigation.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward to help the investigation.

A force spokesman said officers were “particularly keen” to speak to the driver of a gray 2022 registered Seat car with roof bars.

They said the car arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and officers believed the driver could provide useful information.
