Pasadena residents say they are frustrated by the lack of information about the post office on tornado-damaged Spencer Highway

PASADENA, Texas (KTRK) — Some Pasadena neighbors are upset with the post office, not because mail is missing, but because it’s an “eyesore.”

If you drive along Spencer Highway in Pasadena, you can barely see the post office building. This is not because of the fence, but because the bushes are blocking the view.

“High weeds and the building was gutted,” said a Pasadena woman. “It’s falling apart. It’s disgusting. It makes our city look bad.”

The Pasadena woman had used the facility in the past and said she no longer does.

He asked us not to reveal his identity because he feared escalating postal problems. A year and a half ago, a hurricane damaged the building, which was closed.

Added a temporary trailer for mailboxes. But customers say business hours are too inconsistent and mail isn’t delivered on time, prompting them to go elsewhere.

“This is so pathetic,” he said. “We must have answers no matter what. We are a paying customer. We are residents.”

All parts of this property are free of overgrown lawns. A section along the Spencer Highway, the city of Pasadena’s right-of-way, was mowed.

A spokesperson told ABC13 they have received complaints about the post office’s landscaping.

But because the post office is on federal property, they can’t issue citations or force the post office to do anything.

Eyewitness News has learned something needs to be done quickly. A USPS spokesperson said they are aware of tall grass and weeds.

They plan to get it done soon but haven’t said when. We also learned that they plan to reopen the post office early next year.

Before neighbors do this, they hope to not only restore the building but also clean the grounds.

“It’s an eyesore,” he said. “Gross. I’m sure it attracts rodents, insects, etc. and it looks disgusting.”

USPS sent ABC13 the following statement regarding the branch:

The Postal Service appreciates its customers. The safety and well-being of both postal customers and employees is of the utmost importance. We strive to be a good neighbor in the communities we serve. In this particular case, the local government is aware of the landscaping issue at the Pasadena-Delbert L.
