Bristol Rovers striker Chris Martin is “confident” he can produce the same form in which he scored 16 goals last season as he returns to the team after a long injury break.

Martin has made just five appearances for the club this season after breaking his fibula in a “freak” injury on August 29.

He played 49 minutes of last Saturday’s EFL Trophy defeat to Exeter and 79 minutes of the FA Cup first round win against Weston-super-Mare ahead of a possible league return against Lincoln this weekend.

“I’m still very confident that I can show the same form this season as last season and hopefully I can prove it right very soon,” Martin told BBC Radio Bristol.

“I think the important thing for me is to keep performing in training, keep getting repetitions, get in the habit of scoring goals and then I think that will reflect in the matches.”

Martin, 36, was Rovers’ top scorer last season and also missed the first game of the 2024-25 season due to a four-game suspension that carries over to the new season.

He described his time on the sidelines as “frustrating” but said he was now “fully fit”.

“It was a bit of a harmless challenge, something I’ve probably seen or been involved in a few times and I just happened to break my leg,” he added.

“It was frustrating, but at the same time it wasn’t a muscle injury that you thought was preventable or something was wrong here and there.

“Maybe it was a little easier to deal with, but I guess it depends on perspective.

“It was a bit weird, not really avoidable, so I had to keep going with it, keep rehabbing – which was difficult because I could do so little at the beginning. It was pretty quick to get back into the game.”
