Poppy Pattinson: Brighton ‘can’t stand’ Arsenal defeat

Brighton defender Poppy Pattinson said she would not dwell on their heavy defeat against Arsenal in their Women’s Super League match against West Ham on Saturday.

The high-flying Seagulls were in good form with four wins from their first six league matches against Arsenal, but were beaten 5-0 with just one shot on target.

“Last week was disappointing and we worked hard to fix that this week,” the left-back said.

“This is a mental game as much as it is physical. We can’t dwell on the last one and we know what we can fix.”

“We carry the same belief we had at the start of the season into this season (against West Ham).”

Despite last week’s defeat, Dario Vidosic’s side still sit third, one point ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United.

“It feels great to be sitting where we are right now,” he said.

“I’m not someone who just settles down. We want to keep getting better. We started the season very well, we set high expectations for ourselves.”

This weekend’s game will be played at the club’s home ground, the Amex Stadium, and Pattinson says the team “loves” playing there.

“It’s a great stadium and hopefully we can get a win there for our fans,” he added.

“A game is a game, the atmosphere can be brought anywhere but these are the games we want to play. We just want to put on a show.”
