Moo Deng now has an official song released in 4 languages

BANGKOK (AP) — If you can’t get enough little dwarf hippo Moo Deng An official song from Thailand featuring the internet’s favorite baby animal has now been released in four languages for fans around the world.

The 50-second cheerful song “Moodeng Moodeng” is available at: Thai, English, Chinese And Japanese Their versions feature simple lyrics such as “Moo Deng Moo Deng, boing boing boing/ Mother mother, play with me.” The music video consists of short clips of the baby hippo jumping, playing with his caregiver, or hanging out with his mother, Jona.

The catchy number was produced and written by renowned Thai composer Mueanphet Ammara and was released by GMM Music, one of Thailand’s largest music labels.

Moo Deng, a type of dumpling that literally means “jumping pork” in Thailand, has become a global phenomenon just a month after it was unveiled on Facebook by the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand’s southern Chon Buri province.

Fans say the name compliments his chaotic personality. Moo Deng loves to “deng” or jump, and his dazzling bounce is featured in countless memes all over social media. His image was used by sports teams and businesses.

The hippo, now four months old, has attracted scores of visitors to the zoo, which is about a two-hour drive from the capital Bangkok. The zoo estimates it has received an average of 3,000 to 5,000 visitors a day over the past few months and sells clothing, bedding and other items based on Moo Deng.

Zoo director Narongwit Chodchoi said the increased income from Moo Deng would help breeding programs for many endangered species, such as the pygmy hippopotamus, which is threatened by poaching and habitat loss. The species is native to West Africa and only 2,000-3,000 remain in the wild.

The zoo is located on 800 hectares (almost 2,000 acres) of land and is home to more than 2,000 animals.

All four versions of the Moo Deng song are available on YouTube and streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music.
