Corey Burke, 31, allegedly told detectives he tried to persuade his father, Timothy, 67, to turn off the lights but was unable to turn him away. He also told police that he was extremely emotional about the election and felt “something important” was happening on Election Day. Seattle Times.

Police were dispatched to the area where the woman lived around 20:00 on the evening of November 5, upon the notice that someone had broken the windows of a house. Burke then left the house with blood on his face and was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Police continued searching the home and found his father’s body in the basement with wounds to his head and torso, according to the King County coroner’s report. A bloody silver and blue ice climbing ax was also seized.

The day after the attack, Burke told detectives he tripped over his father, strangled him with an axe, and allegedly whispered to someone, “I killed him.” Seattle Times reports.

Timothy’s extensive injuries included wounds to his head and torso, 5-inch lacerations to his ribcage, and a puncture wound near the base of his skull.

“Corey said his father started arguing with him about turning off the lights and ‘just freaked out,'” Seattle Detective Azrielle Brikey wrote in a report.

“The defendant told detectives that he knew he couldn’t convince her to keep the lights off, so he went upstairs, grabbed an ice ax, tripped his father, strangled him with the ax and his hands, then bit him and hit him several times. The ice ax was blunt, a summary of the case prepared by the prosecution said. and it was stated that it was on the head and sides with its sharp ends.

According to police, Timothy was somewhat reclusive and living at his daughter’s home in Rainier Valley, Washington, due to a series of health problems before his death.

Burke was formally charged Friday in King County Superior Court.

Prosecutors asked the court to set bail for Burke at $2 million, citing public safety concerns and flight risk concerns. His hearing will be held on November 21.
