Fire breaks out at Downtown homeless camp near Paycor Stadium

A fire broke out at a riverfront homeless camp in downtown Tuesday afternoon.

The fire caused large plumes of smoke to travel west toward cars traveling on the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., the Cincinnati Fire Department was dispatched to the scene for a report of a fire near Mehring Way and Central Avenue, the intersection behind Paycor Stadium.

A firefighter from Precinct 1 said a fire truck arrived on scene at 3:38 p.m. and located a grass fire associated with a “small homeless camp.”

He said the fire was extinguished 5-10 minutes after its arrival.

No injuries were reported.

No one was seen from the campsite while the fire was extinguished.

The Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
