Irene Austin’s is closing soon

One of Austin’s iconic brunch spots is closing its doors. Irene’s, which has served as a vibrant hub for coffee lovers for eight years, will close on November 24.

The popular restaurant and bar announced that it was closed, citing the expiration of its lease.

Irene’s has served as a gathering space for inclusive boozer-centric events since 2016. The restaurant has hosted brunches, movie nights, nostalgia events and more. He welcomed everyone, even smokers.

Irene goes out in style and hosts a series of events to celebrate with the regulars.

The restaurant will host an “Early Daze” nostalgia party on November 15. Two events are planned for November 16, including a festive final brunch and college night. On Sunday, November 17, they will host a special drag brunch celebrating eight years at the venue.

An Austin-based investment and development group plans to build a skyscraper in the 500 block of West Avenue, east of Whole Foods Market’s flagship store. There will be approximately 360 units in the planned building and will replace both Irene and Taquero Mucho.

Taquero Mucho has not announced plans to close its west side location.
