Google Maps will use artificial intelligence to answer questions about the new restaurant you want to try

Google Maps I’m getting a big update This is supposed to help you find new places to visit with AI. Starting this week, you’ll be able to explore more locations with Immersive View and search for specific spots based on a descriptive query like “things to do at night with friends.”

Google will then use the Gemini AI model to create “inspiring collections” that fit that description. For late-night options, Google Maps can show places classified as “talking places” or places with “live music.” Meanwhile, normal search results remain below these collections.

Google Maps allows you to type a question or choose from AI-generated questions.

However, this is not the extent of the artificial intelligence features that Google has added to Maps. When you tap a location, you’ll see summaries of AI-generated user reviews and a prompt to “Ask Maps about this place.” You can enter a question here and Maps uses Gemini to provide an AI-generated answer based on information gathered from reviews.

During a press conference, Google Maps head Miriam Daniel picked a restaurant and asked, “Quiet atmosphere?” He showed how this could work by entering the question. Google Maps later responded, stating that this location “has a lively atmosphere and laid-back vibe.” Below the answer you will see the reviews Gemini used to give his answer. These features are rolling out on Android and iOS in the US this week, building on AI integration that Google began testing earlier this year.

“We wanted to make sure that everything we showed in this experience was fresh and real,” Daniel said. “There are 100 million updates every day, and we can leverage that fresh information and base the results off of Gemini… making sure the results show real locations on the map.”
