Sergio Perez Retaliates on Red Bull Leave Rumors as Pressure Grows

Sergio Perez has once again hit back at speculation about his tenure at Red Bull Racing. After turbulent performances this season and most recently at the Mexico City Grand Prix, rumors began to circulate that he could leave the team.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has hinted that team roles, including Perez’s, may need to be re-evaluated due to the decline in results. Horner’s comment is as follows: Reported by Formula1.com:

“As a team we need both cars to score points and that’s the nature of F1.” We try to support him as much as we can from the team’s point of view.

“I think we’ve done everything we can to support Checo and we’ll continue to do so next weekend in Brazil, but there comes a point in time when you can only do so much.”

However, Perez confidently responded to the media ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix:

“No, not at all. After all, these are just rumors.

“You’ll see me in Vegas, you’ll see me next year. “I’m not the one worried about that.”

Perez’s final race in Mexico presented significant difficulties. Starting from 18th on the grid and suffering a five-second penalty at the start was the beginning of a difficult incident. A collision with VCARB rider Liam Lawson also added to his troubles, damaging his RB20 and finishing 17th. Commenting on the heated fight with Lawson, Perez added:

“Whatever happened is in the past. We’re moving on and we look at those first 10 laps as hope. We understood what happened in qualifying, we saw problems, we tried to fix it on Sunday and I think we’re moving in the right direction, that’s definitely encouraging.”

He concluded:

“We understood a lot of the problems we had in Mexico, from my perspective when you look at my first 10 laps in Mexico they looked good and competitive.” “But we definitely need to find something; when you look at the pace of McLaren and Ferrari, they seem to be at a different level in the last two races.

“I’m really hoping we can be in the mix here. We’ve understood a few of the issues but it’s not very clear how we’re going to solve them. It’s a different track, the altitude probably has a bigger impact on us (in Mexico), so we’ll see. I think we’ll have a pretty good idea of where we are tomorrow.” We will have an idea.”
