A New Jersey man died after falling down an embankment while being chased on foot by police, according to law enforcement.

Guttenberg police were called to 68th Street and Bellevue Boulevard around 11 p.m. Tuesday and witnesses said one of the men was armed, the state attorney’s office said Friday.

A preliminary investigation revealed that officers located the individuals involved on JFK Boulevard and that the man climbed over the railings of an adjacent building after a foot chase. The man died after falling down the embankment after climbing over the railings.

It was determined that the person, whose identity has not yet been determined, died at the scene. A gun was found on the man when he died.

Further information was not immediately available. An investigation is ongoing.
