AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – Akron police say a driver is recovering after a serious crash Wednesday night.

Officers said the crash occurred in the area of ​​Seiberling Street and Englewood Avenue around 9:25 p.m.

Seiberling Avenue between Englewood Avenue and the roundabout at Innovation Way will remain closed starting at 11 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, a 25-year-old driver suspected of being impaired was driving at a high rate of speed before the crash.

Police said during the change of road, the driver continued straight before the car returned to the road, sending it flying off the road and through the grass.

According to police, the driver lost control and crashed into a pole before landing upside down along a stream.

The person was removed from the vehicle by the Akron Fire Department and was taken to Summa Health Akron for treatment with serious injuries.

Teams are continuing their work to resolve the accident, which the police stated is continuing their investigation.
