Canada beat Suriname to advance to Nations League semi-finals

The CONCACAF Nations League qualifying rounds continue this evening, with big players Canada and Mexico trying to book their place in the last four.

Here’s what’s happened so far.

Goalscorers: David 23′, Shaffelburg 30′, 67′

Canada earned passage with a comfortable win in the second match against Suriname in Toronto.

Two goals in seven minutes from Jonathan David and Jacob Shaffelburg respectively before the half hour saw Jesse Marsch’s side get up and running and from there they didn’t look back.

Although they perhaps felt they should have found the back of the net a few more times, Shaffelburg continued their hot streak by scoring their second goal on the night to put the home team out of sight and secure their first international cap.

Canada and the United States will now wait and see who fills out the semifinal bracket between Honduras and Mexico.
