WEBER COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting at a West Haven City apartment on Sunday, according to authorities.

According to a Sunday night press release, authorities responded to the scene after hearing reports of “a disturbance in the apartment” where two people were arguing. Weber County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the man involved allegedly damaged property, returned to an apartment and barricaded himself inside with the other person he was arguing with. Authorities forced their way into the apartment after hearing “a commotion from inside,” according to the press release.

“The male brandished his knife and began advancing toward deputies, holding the knife in his hand,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “Three deputies opened fire on the man, causing his death.”

The three deputies who shot at the man were placed on leave pending an investigation, which is standard practice and county policy following an officer-involved shooting. According to the press release, no other deputies or persons involved were injured in the incident.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday night’s incident was a domestic violence situation.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasize that resources are available to anyone involved in a dangerous domestic relationship,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office did not release any further information because the investigation is ongoing.
