Old West Antique and Candy Store in Darby is closing its doors after 37 years

DARBY — You may be familiar with the job that takes up an entire block in Darby. Unfortunately, the restaurant, coffee house, cafe, antique shop and candy store that has been serving the community for 37 years is closing its doors.

“We will definitely miss Darby. We’ve known this has been a core issue for 37 years. “We had it, we had it, for a wonderful five years,” said Michael Swanson, husband of the owner of Old West Antique & Candy Store.

Darby’s Old West Antique and Candy Shop is closing for a variety of reasons. One is the health and well-being of the owner, and the other is the issue of ownership of the real estate of the business.

“They will divide these units into smaller units rather than a single complex. So this is now available on MLS,” Swanson said.

However, the events organized by Old West Antique & Candy Store will continue this year.

“I want to reassure the community that Christmas is still going on,” Swanson said. “We’re turning it over to Darby Marshal, TJ, and he’s going to keep the light parade and the Christmas tree lighting going. It looks like it’s going to be in the park. We’ve given them all the contacts so they can do whatever they need to do with all of that. And we’ve been doing that for the last four or five years.” “We’ll be here as spectators doing our best to continue what we’ve built.”

Although this business, which has been a staple of the community for 37 years, is closing its doors, the services it offers, especially during the holidays, will continue to be passed on to other members of the community.
