Netanyahu’s aide investigated by police according to October 7 timeline

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Chief of Staff is being investigated by police over allegations that he altered documents related to the October 7 Hamas attack to make his boss look more positive.

According to reports in Israeli media, Tzachi Braverman, one of Netanyahu’s closest advisors, was questioned for more than five hours by the Israeli police Lahav 433 major crimes unit on Thursday.

Detectives confirmed the investigation is ongoing.

The accusation centers on two phone calls Netanyahu received on October 7, 2023, as Hamas’s cross-border raid began.

Braverman is suspected of altering the documented time in which he received the first update on the attack via phone call from Netanyahu’s then-military secretary, Maj. Gen. Avi Gil.

The chief of staff is accused of changing the time from 06:40 to 06:29.

He denies changing the text of the conversation other than changing the time.

During interrogation, he reportedly told detectives, “I know the first call came at 06.29, so I insisted on changing it.”

According to the news in Haaretz newspaper, Gil called Netanyahu at 06.29 when the Hamas attack started, but Netanyahu did not give any instructions and told him to call again 10 minutes later at 06.40.

According to Haaretz, Netanyahu told Gil to assess the situation regarding the developing Hamas occupation only during the second phone call, during which Braverman allegedly changed the timestamp to appear as if it was the first phone call.

The allegation is that Braverman changed the time to give the impression that the prime minister was acting with more urgency and determination.

The chief of staff denies this.

7 October attack It was the greatest military and intelligence failure in Israeli history.

Many high-ranking military officials resigned because of this.

Netanyahu has consistently denied any personal failings.

But his critics believe the prime minister is ultimately responsible for failing to prevent the deadliest attack on the country since the founding of the State of Israel in 1948.

Various investigations into military and intelligence failures are ongoing, and Netanyahu has rejected claims that he is stalling on demands for a thorough investigation.

This potential scandal is still in its infancy.

However, this could seriously weaken the Prime Minister’s position.

And this comes at a time when Netanyahu is middle of the road a try He faces corruption charges.

He will testify at the hearing next month because he was unable to get the case dismissed because he believed it was a political witch hunt.
