PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A 26-year-old man faces a murder charge and a host of other charges Fatal shooting at High Street and Frederick Avenue In Portsmouth.

Police said they arrested Javonte Gray around 11:30 p.m. Friday in connection with the shooting death of 40-year-old Robert Mallory earlier in the day.

Officers were called to High Street and Frederick Avenue for a shooting around 2:45 p.m. There, they found Mallory suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where police pronounced him dead.

According to the statement, detectives with the Major Crimes Unit were able to locate and take Gray into custody, and he is being held without bail in the Portsmouth City Jail. He is charged with three additional weapons charges, including second-degree murder, drive-by shooting, highway shooting and being a violent felon with a firearm.
