A murder investigation was launched after a woman’s body was found in the trunk of a vehicle.

Northamptonshire Police were contacted regarding a welfare concern for a woman in Corby, Northamptonshire, which led to the discovery of a body in Ilford, east London.

Authorities said the death was being treated as suspicious and police activity would continue throughout the weekend in several locations, including Corby and Ilford.

The force’s Supt Steve Freeman said he believed this was a targeted incident and there was no wider risk to the public.
