Randolph County authorities charge Columbia teen with second-degree murder

Randolph County authorities have charged a Columbia teenager with the second-degree murder of 22-year-old Ethan March. A teenage girl from Moberly also faced charges in connection with the March murder.

Randolph County sheriff’s investigators released a 16-year-old boy from Columbia, charged with second-degree murder, and a 15-year-old girl from Moberly, charged with felony hindering prosecution, to be transferred to the custody of the Randolph County Juvenile Department.

A man who said he had raised March since he was a baby said the murder victim lived in a shed on his property south of Moberly. Deputies found March’s body Sunday afternoon near his home on County Road 2605. A few hours later, deputies detained the two teenagers. They found the two suspects near a pond in the woods near March’s home. A Macon County Sheriff’s drone helped locate the suspects.

March was a freshman at Moberly High School and was trying to get his GED at the time of his death, Moberly Public Schools officials said.

Juvenile authorities are not releasing the names of the suspects and the probable cause statement. A service celebrating the life of Ethan March will be held Sunday in Moberly.
