Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, who partially dislocated his left shoulder in Los Angeles’ victory over the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the World Series, was cleared to play in Game 3 on Monday night.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said it would be a case of pain tolerance for Ohtani.

“If he feels good enough to go, I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be there,” Roberts said of the starting 11 at Sunday’s press conference.

Ohtani injured his shoulder while trying to steal second base in the seventh inning of Los Angeles’ 4-2 win on Saturday night.

The designated star spiker used his left arm to support himself as he skated feet first. He remained at second base after being tagged out to end the inning while instructors tended to him.

Ohtani left the game and was diagnosed with a subluxation (or partial dislocation) in his left shoulder. The Dodgers were “encouraged” after positive post-game tests regarding Ohtani’s strength and range of motion.

Ohtani is scheduled to rejoin the team Sunday night, Roberts said. While the rest of the team flew to New York following Saturday’s game, Ohtani was evaluated in Los Angeles. The Dodgers lead the best-of-seven series, 2-0.

Ohtani, who joined Los Angeles last December on a heavily delayed 10-year, $700 million deal, is 1-for-8 so far in the Fall Classics.

The 30-year-old and likely National League MVP hit 54 home runs and stole 59 bases during the regular season and became the first player in major league history to hit 50-50.
