Charles Kelley Says Getting Sober Was the ‘Best Decision’ He Ever Made

Lady A singer Charles Kelley looking back at the moment decided to quit drinking In Hulu’s new documentary series All Country.

“Success is of course a double-edged sword. “You know, once you figure out what it feels like and once you get there, it’s a drug in itself,” Kelley, 43, said in the second episode, which begins airing Friday, Nov. 15. There can be a lot of doubt and I think there’s a lot to keep your ego in check. “I had to return from treatment.”

He added: “I went to this place in Utah for a month and kind of talked to our team about, ‘What are we saying? Why are we canceling the tour?'”

The group is also Hillary Scott And Dave Haywood, postponed his concerts in August 2022, after Kelley completes inpatient treatment. To talk All CountryKelley stated that it was important for the band to be “more honest” and transparent about their struggles with their fans.

Kelley is married to Cassie McConnell Since 2009. During its appearance in 2023 CBS MorningsMcConnell, 41, announced that he plans to “meet a divorce attorney” before Kelley goes to rehab. Since Kelley got clean, his wife is “really proud” of his dedication. (The couple shares son Ward, born in 2016.)

“When he was in rehab and I went there for family week, one of the first messages you got was, ‘You’re going to have to do just as much work here.’ And I remember being very angry,” McConnell said at the time. “Like, you did this. And now I’m supposed to do all this work? But…it affects everyone in the family system. So I could choose not to do the work, but then I’d have to live with the way I’m affected and not healed. So whether Charles and I are married or not, it affects everyone in the family system. Even though I saw it again for the rest of my life, I still had to face what I experienced.

Kelley further explained: All Country that getting sober was “the best decision he ever made in his life.”

Many of Hollywood’s biggest stars have been candid about their sobriety journeys over the years. Kelly Osbourne, who previously mentioned that she had been sober for six years, announced in April 2021 that the disease had relapsed and that she was working on the next steps. “I’m not proud of it. But I got back on my way,” he wrote (…)

“Actually, it wasn’t my intention to share my story so much. A situation arose where I felt like I wanted to be honest with fans and people about what I was going through,” Kelley said. “And it snowballed to the point where you started to see that people were really connecting with the story and that it could help them in some way.”

The musician added, “I think this is a very common occurrence and we all struggle with it. The career stage I’m in and the life stage I’m in, I want to be able to give something back in a positive way too – even if it’s just a little encouragement.
