Former Arkansas councilman found guilty in city credit card misuse case

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A former councilman in Izard County was convicted in a case stemming from city credit card misuse.

Josh Jackson, 41, was charged with theft of property worth more than $25,000, forgery and fraudulent use of a credit card, Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin said.

This conviction comes nearly a year after Jackson booked himself into the Izard County jail on Nov. 23, 2023, on charges related to his use of a Horseshoe Bend Municipal Recreation Improvement District (MRID) credit card issued to him.

Bank records and credit card records for MRID showed multiple cash advances totaling nearly $2,000 in 2018, 2019 and 2020, according to court records.

Court records also stated that 16 checks totaling more than $30,000 were written payable to Jackson or his business from 2018 to 2021. Court documents stated there were 87 checks written with forged signatures of MRID board members.

Authorities said the allegations against Jackson were unrelated to his duties as a councilman but arose while he was serving on the city council.

Jackson was sentenced to six years of probation and must pay a $1,500 fine and $30,112 in restitution within 30 days, Griffin said.
