One person died and two were seriously injured in a crash in Franklin County on Thursday

OTTAWA, Kan. (WIBW) – One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a crash on a Franklin County highway Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 4:01 p.m. Thursday on the K-68 highway, approximately 6.5 kilometers west of Ottawa.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling east on K-68 when it began turning left or north onto Indiana Road.

The patrol said the driver of the Mercury failed to yield to a 2021 Hyundai Accent approaching westbound on K-68.

The patrol said the Hyundai then collided with the Mercury.

The driver of the Hyundai, 38-year-old Thomas R. Harmon of Pomona, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Harmon, who was alone in the car, was not wearing a seat belt.

The Mercury’s driver, Milda M. Caleb, 83, and passenger Lester J. Caleb, 53, both from Ottawa, were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. Both passengers in the Mercury were wearing their seat belts, the patrol said.
