Cloudy days await the state line

STATELINE. (WIFR) – Clouds managed to stick around this afternoon and look like they’ll stick around for a while longer. Clouds keep our days a little cooler and our nights a little warmer. With that in mind, overnight lows will be in the mid to lower 40s with light and variable winds.

Heading into Friday, some models suggested that we started the day cloudy and the sun came out in the afternoon. But models aren’t very good at picking up the layer of stratus clouds that are always around this time of year, and there’s nothing in our atmosphere to force them out. With that in mind, I think the time forecast for tomorrow’s sunshine is off and we’ll stay on the cloudy side. If there was ever a time to admit to being wrong, this is it haha. With cloud cover, overhead highs will only reach the mid-50s with light winds.

Saturday will be very similar to Friday; cloud cover and highs in the mid 50s.

A very weak cold wave will arrive on Saturday night. This might give us stray showers here or there, but I doubt we’ll see anything widespread. The reasoning behind this is that our atmosphere doesn’t have a lot of instability on this front and doesn’t have a lot of moisture. Oddly enough, this front will keep us even warmer as winds will shift from the south around 15 mph. Lows will only get into the mid 40s.

A warm start to the morning and southwesterly winds will allow Sunday to be warm with highs in the lower 60s. Unfortunately, the clouds hang overhead once again.

Jumping ahead to the beginning of next week, a major low pressure system will move through the Midwest, bringing with it a chance of rain starting next week and some cooler times toward the end of the week. Highs late next week look to be in the mid to lower 40s. I want to get ahead of any snow rumors, I think the timing of any precipitation from now on will be when we are on the warm side of freezing so I don’t think it will snow on a large scale. There’s still a chance we’ll get a flurry or two, but I doubt anything will actually work.
