Longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church celebrates 101st birthday

ALBANY, GA. (WALB) – A leading figure at Antioch Baptist Church in Albany celebrates his 101st birthday on Saturday, November 9th.

Miss Essie Covin Williams lived a life of many accomplishments, especially in the church.

He has been a member of Antioch Baptist since 1936. She was a mother of the church and served on the Nurse Aid Board.

He was born in Worth County in 1923 to Mollie and John Covin. He is the only living relative.

During her long life, she gave birth to 10 children, but five of them died.

On Saturday, Miss Essie’s friends and family surrounded her as she celebrated her special day.

“This is great. We leave all praise to Allah. We know that you achieved this thanks to Him. “We just give God the praise, the honor and the glory,” said Freddie Williams Jr., son of Mrs. Essie Williams.

“I feel very humble to be the eldest grandchild, the oldest grandchild here. This is really great. “I wouldn’t miss this for the world,” said Christopher Blount, Sr., grandson of Miss Essie Williams.

Blout says his favorite memory with his grandmother was coming home from Fort Stewart for the weekend.

Miss Essie shared how she lived such a long life.

“Just eat healthy. Stay strong. Trust God because he brought me here for a specialty. “He’s keeping me here for a reason,” he said.
