Texas A&M Aggies vs. New Mexico State Aggies: What Do the Statistics Say?

Aspect Texas A&M Aggies When they return to play after a bye week, they know that every game from now on is actually a play-off game. Luckily, they have some sort of rehearsal nearby.

On Saturday night, A&M will host the New Mexico State Aggies in their final non-conference game of the season. New Mexico State looks like a very easy opponent on paper, currently at 2-7 and sitting at the bottom of the Conference USA standings. While A&M needs to win decisively, it’s still important to show up and do your best.

Having said that, let’s take a look at the numbers.

As would be expected from a 2-7 Group of Five team, the stats are not good for New Mexico State. The team ranks seventh in Conference USA in scoring offense (20.6 points per game), ninth in total offense (304.3 yards per game), and last in passing offense (116.6 yards per game), which is mostly due to the optional offense it operates . In fact, NMSU’s passing offense ranks as the third-worst in the country, ahead of Air Force and Army, two teams that also use an option-style offense. Without a solid rushing attack (187.8 yards per game), this offense would have fallen apart.

Unfortunately, it’s a similar story from a defensive standpoint. New Mexico State is in the conference in scoring defense (37.1 points allowed per game), ninth overall (450.2 yards allowed per game) and rushing defense (204.8 yards allowed per game) and eighth in pass defense (per game). 245.4 yards allowed) ranks last. game). New Mexico State’s defense might be one of the worst in the country, considering it hasn’t faced a Power Five team all season.

For A&M, the game plan is clear. Offensively, the base game is bread and butter, as A&M ranks second in the SEC in rushing (212.9 yards per game). However, losing Le’Veon Moss, the season’s best running back, will deal a blow to the offense.

Defensively, A&M ranks in the bottom half of the SEC in most statistics, but the competition is very high.

A&M and New Mexico State will kick off Saturday in College Station at 6:45 p.m.
