Boston Celtics Legends Make Powerful Ja Morant Comparisons

After missing 73 games in the 2024-25 season, Memphis Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant returned to remind the world what he can do. The Grizzlies came out of the gate with a 7-5 record, led by Morant averaging 20.2 points, 9.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Morant has missed the last three games for Memphis and is considered “week to week” with a hip injury. When healthy, Morant led the Grizzlies to back-to-back third-place finishes in the Western Conference, but many people forgot just how dominant he was on the court.

Morant, 25, has already established himself as one of people’s highlights with some of the most ridiculous dunks and layups ever seen.

Boston Celtics legends and NBA Hall of Famers Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were discussing Morant’s greatness. Ticket and Truth Podcast comparing him to the likes of Anthony Edwards, Allen Iverson, and even Vince Carter.

“Ja can dunk the same dunks as Anthony Edwards,” says Paul Pierce. “But the only difference is that Ja is a little bit better than ‘Ant-Man’ with his playmaking and creativity. And the way he rotates his body around the basket. The way he moves 360 degrees in the lane is ridiculous… He’s a special guy, we know he’s special.”

“Ja (Allen Iverson) looks like Vince Carter in his body,” says Kevin Garnett. “Keep improving your game, young man. Keep improving your perspective, keep improving your IQ.”

Although Morant’s stats this season are a bit low compared to his best seasons, he is very effective on the field. The Grizzlies are 5-3 when Morant plays and 2-2 when he is benched. Memphis desperately wants Ja back on the court to help him get more wins, but the rest of the NBA wants to see him for the insane highlights he puts out every night.
