SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM/Gray News) – A 22-year-old Michigan man died Tuesday night when he was struck on Interstate 75 while trying to help his friend change a flat tire.

According to Michigan State Police, the crash happened on southbound I-75 near Baker Road just after 7 p.m.

An 80-year-old man driving a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck crashed into two vehicles, and the 22-year-old man was caught between cars changing tires on the side of the road.

The 22-year-old had gone to the scene to help a friend change a flat tire. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition but later died, MSP said.

The 80-year-old driver was slightly injured in the accident and was taken to the hospital.

Michigan police did not immediately identify those involved in the crash but said the collision remains under investigation.
