As the NFL season continues and coaches find themselves on the hot seat, one college coach finds himself at the center of rumors that he will be leaving his program for the professional ranks.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has given no indication that he plans to go to the NFL. To an NFL insider. Jordan SchultzSanders “hasn’t had any formal discussions with anyone” about taking a job in the NFL and his priority is “to win at Colorado this season.”

It was inevitable that Sanders would be at the center of NFL coaching rumors after the work he did in Colorado and the attention he has received nationally over the last few years.

Sanders took over a Buffaloes program that had won just nine games in the three years before his arrival. Colorado struggled in its first season, going 4-8, but the 2024 season has been successful so far.

Colorado is 7-2 heading into Saturday’s game against Utah and controls its own destiny in both the Big 12 and the College Football Playoff race. The Buffs are 5-1 in conference play and sit just behind BYU in the Big 12 standings.

They’ll have a manageable three games against Utah, Kansas and Oklahoma State to finish the season, meaning a trip to the Big 12 championship is in their sights. A win in the Big 12 championship would earn them an automatic bid to the CFP, something that seemed elusive two seasons ago.

Heading into the 11th week of the NFL season, two coaches have been fired: Robert Salih New York Jets and Dennis Allen From the New Orleans Saints. A handful of coaches are on the hot seat, including Mike McCarthy of the 3-6 Dallas Cowboys.

If Sanders were offered a job in Dallas, it would be hard not to consider it considering his five seasons with the organization.

For now, he’ll focus on winning games in Boulder.
