The final page has turned in the conflict between Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown and Nike.

After Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 59 points to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a victory over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, Nike wrote on social media, “Nothing childish about these. 59 for the Greek freak.”

While seemingly innocuous, it was an apparent reference to comments Brown made after the Celtics defeated the Bucks on Sunday. Antetokounmpo reached out and high-fived Brown at the last moment after the Bucks star committed an offensive foul with his elbow close to his opponent’s head.

Brown “Giannis is a kid” he told reporters after the game. “I just focused on helping my team get the win and that’s what we did.”

He also had some words for Nike on Thursday:

Like Nick O’Malley According to Boston.com’s detailed description, this isn’t the first time Brown has weighed in on Nike.

He “made a series of veiled comments before claiming that the sneaker giant had a role in being overlooked for a spot on Team USA” for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Notably, he was a sneaker-free representative after his deal with Adidas expired and said he would not sign with Nike to increase his chances of making the squad at the next Games.

“I will say this,” Brown said. “If I have to sign with Nike to increase my chances of playing USA Basketball in 2028, I will pass.”

Instead he started This year he launched his own shoe brand 741 and rejected More than $50 million from potential endorsement deals in the pipeline.

If nothing else, this is another story for when the Celtics and Bucks next face each other in an Eastern Conference matchup. Boston has already won the first two meetings this season, and the two teams will meet for the last time in the regular season on December 6.

The two teams look like top contenders in the East, but so far only the Celtics are playing that way with a 10-3 record. By comparison, the Bucks are just 4-8 and out of the playoff picture at this point.

Perhaps there will be a playoff game in the future, which could inspire more posts from Nike.
