Mae’s Bakery

One of New Orleans’ best new bakeries is closing after less than a year, owner Jeremy Fogg says announced on Instagram last week. Mae’s Bakeshop is the former Emeril’s pastry chef’s tribute to her mother and grandmother on Baronne Street, serving classic Southern biscuits, chess pie, sour cream cake, cookie crisps and oatmeal cream pies. It’s a healthy, feel-good spot to miss — Fogg says he made the “painful” decision to close the storefront, possibly leaving room for a return to the pop-up business he previously operated. The deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 27, and the Thanksgiving pies are still available for pre-order.

Cellar

Larder, a popular deli, grocery store and restaurant next to Trader Joe’s in Metairie, closed earlier this month. Chefs Alison Vega-Knoll and Chris Wilson first opened the cafe in 2020, specializing in breakfast and lunch, prepared meals and catering. Last year, the duo sold it to BRG Hospitality (the company). Rebranded from Besh Restaurant Group in 2018). The closure announcement made online just three days before the closure did not include any reason.

carmo

Dana Honn and Christina do Carmo Honn, chefs and owners of Carmo, announced They are closing their popular tropical restaurant in the Warehouse District at the end of 2024 after 15 years. Honn, who said Carmo’s last night will be Dec. 21, told Eater that the restaurant has not been profitable since the beginning of the pandemic and that they have been researching how to best make the transition for the past few years. “We can’t change the size of our building, our location, or our number of employees, so we have to change course completely,” says Honn.

Fortunately, This new route includes three separate but related initiatives: Nikkeia Creole izakaya opening at Broadside in Mid-City in November; Eatwell KitchenNewly opened fast-casual restaurant in Metairie; and Tempero’s Market Kitchen, a pop-up and event catering business that will reimagine many of Carmo’s favorites.
