Gaza surgeon talked about unmanned aerial vehicles targeting children

Prof Mamode, former clinical lead for transplant surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, said it was a “very consistent story”.

He added: “The bullets that the drones fire are little cuboidal pellets and I have removed some of these from the bellies of young children. The youngest child I operated on was, I think, three years old.”

“In a way, these pellets were more destructive than bullets.

“I have seen drone pellets penetrate and splash around, causing multiple injuries.

“I had a seven-year-old son… He had injuries to his liver, spleen, intestines, arteries, quite extensive damage from a single entry point.

“He got over it and was out a week later.”

In a statement following Tuesday’s hearing, Ms Champion said: “Based on this evidence, the UK needs to take seriously the possibility that there have been serious violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza.

“The committee will do all we can to act on Professor Mamode’s outstanding testimony and ensure that his experiences are heard loud and clear.”

Hamas gunmen attacked Israel on October 7 last year, killing nearly 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages.

The attack would be the deadliest in Israeli history, and as of November 2024, the identities of more than 100 hostages remain unknown.

Israel then launched a military offensive in Gaza that killed a total of 43,712 people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

The Israeli military insists it is not targeting civilians and accuses Hamas of using the population as human shields.
