    Select fans should watch Netflix’s Mary series this Christmas

    The new film, directed by DJ Caruso (Disturbia), is billed as “a biblical coming-of-age saga in which Mary of Nazareth is ostracized and forced into hiding after a miraculous pregnancy.”

    The official synopsis reads: “Through the eyes of Mary, this biblical coming-of-age epic tells the story of one of history’s most profound figures and the extraordinary journey that led to the birth of Jesus.”

    “Mary (Noa Cohen), chosen to give birth to the Messiah, is shunned and forced into hiding after a miraculous pregnancy. When King Herod (Anthony Hopkins) orders a deadly hunt for his newborn baby, Mary and Joseph (Ido Tako), they flee with faith and courage to save his life at all costs.

    The cast also includes Stephanie Nur (Lioness, 1883), Susan Brown (Game of Thrones), Ori Pfeffer (Hacksaw Ridge) and Eamon Farren (Winchester).

    You really must be planning a double bill: Mary and The Chosen’s actual pilot, ‘The Shepherd’, aired in 2017, two years before the series debuted. The episode also features Mary recounting the nativity and the Adoration of the Shepherds, so it goes hand in hand with the Netflix movie.
