Dear Abby: If I died in this isolated marriage, no one would even miss me.

DEAR ABBY:

I’m old and stuck in a miserable marriage. The romance is long gone. We live as roommates. I don’t think anyone would miss me if I died tomorrow. I am partially disabled and it is difficult for me to go out on my own. Should I accept life as it is or kick its ass? — HOPELESS IN TEXAS

DEAR DESPITE:

If you are financially dependent on your husband or need his help with your personal needs, I am not suggesting you “kick his ass.” Contact your nearest senior center and ask what activities are offered in your community, including transportation for seniors or people with disabilities. If you do this, you may be pleasantly surprised to discover that you are not as isolated as you thought.
