Man arrested for murder in connection with death of pedestrian in Van Zandt County

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office says they received a 911 call around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, reporting that a woman was injured during a car-pedestrian collision in the Rolling Oaks area of ​​rural Van Zandt County. The person who notified officers took the injured Angela Yvonne Lewis, 50, to the Hunt County Regional Medical Center Emergency Room in Quinlan. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful and Lewis was pronounced dead around 11:30 p.m.

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office responded to the emergency department and began investigating the incident. The investigation was turned over to the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office after deputies determined the incident occurred at an address on Van Zandt County Road 3840 in the Rolling Oaks Community.

Witnesses and a possible suspect were taken to the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office and the investigation was continuing.

Interviews and investigations led investigators to obtain and execute several search warrants in Van Zandt and Hunt counties. Investigators also obtained an arrest warrant for Phillip Shane Cromwell, 48, of Waco Bay. Cromwell was arrested Thursday afternoon and booked into the Van Zandt County Jail, accused of murdering Angela Lewis. Cromwell remains in the Van Zandt County Jail on $500,000.00 bond.
