Virginia vs. Notre Dame prediction: Odds, expert picks, QB matchup, betting trends and stats

The Virginia Cavaliers enter this week on the verge of qualifying for the Cup and are trying to find consistency in the final game of the season. At 5-4, they need a win in their final three games to find themselves in a postseason bowl game.

Led by sophomore Anthony Colandrea, the Cavaliers had a big win against Pitt last weekend. They held the Panthers to just 292 yards of total offense and held the electric Eli Holstien to just 10 of 23 passing yards and 121 yards.

They have a tough assignment this week as they travel to South Bend, IN to face the 8-1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Irish have been on a warpath since their home loss to unseeded Northern Illinois. The Irish have won seven straight this season, scoring 40 or more points in four games and outscoring their opponents 183-37 in the last four games.

After a slower-than-expected start, quarterback Riley Leonard played outstanding football for Notre Dame last month. He scored a total of 22 goals during the season, nine in the air and 13 on the ground.

Betting Information and Best Bet

NBC Sports Bet’s Brad Thomas favors Notre Dame -23:
“Naturally, I would defend Riley Leonard’s rushing in this game. He finished his last game with 70 points and had seven games with 50 or more rushing yards. It’s hard to say exactly how high the books put his rushing total, but it’s up to 55.5 yards.” I imagine it’s close. That’s a number I’d at least consider. I can’t say what I’d get without the exact number.

Let’s at least talk about the spread. Notre Dame is 6-2-1 against the spread this year. They have an average margin of victory of 27.2 and are +11.5 by average margin.

This Notre Dame team is special. Defensively they are outstanding. They rank in the top five in defensive success rate and EPA margin.

I don’t understand how Virginia moves the ball effectively. Take the Fighting Irishman.
