Emergency responders share concerns about speed pads

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – You may love them.

You may hate them.

Regardless, if you’ve driven through Nashville recently, you’ve probably noticed the speed pads.

They’re designed to slow down drivers, but we wanted to know how speed pads affect emergency responders who need to get to their destination as quickly as possible.

“If we hit that mound, it’s going to throw them around. It will throw the patient around,” said Vol State paramedic instructor Cory Gibson. “Sometimes they just show up overnight and they don’t send us any warning about them.”

Emergency responders showed WSMV4 firsthand how speed pads affect them and their patients. Also, municipal officials have something to say about this issue.

This story airs Wednesday night at 6 on WSMV4.
