JoeLGA chairman, hua Riti, confirmed the unfortunate development to the media in Jos, the state capital, on Monday, November 11.

Expressing his sadness over the number of deaths recorded, Mr. Riti said that the incident took place last Saturday, November 9, as reported by PremiumTimes.

Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reported that the collapsed mine site is located on the boundaries between Bassa, Jos South and Jos North LGAs.

According to the President, seven of the dead were from Bassa LGA.

“This is an unfortunate incident, these young people were just looking for a livelihood.

“They set out to put their energies to good use to sustain and deal with the current economic distress in the country but met their untimely demise.

“I want to express my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy,” he said.

Most of the dead are young people between the ages of 18 and 30.
