Chiefs Kingdom adds another chapter to Allegiant Stadium’s ‘Arrowhead West’ reputation

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – “Arrowhead West” burnished its reputation once again Sunday as Kansas City Chiefs fans filled Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas with a sea of red.

That’s been the case since the Raiders moved to Sin City, with opposing fans flocking to the stadium and buying tickets in large quantities for the game, but perhaps no team does it better than their AFC West rivals in Kansas City.

“The Chiefs Kingdom travel well everywhere, but they did a great job here traveling to Vegas,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes said. “It’s exciting when you can walk into a stadium and see that you’re in your opponents’ stadium and you see red everywhere. “This shows the support we have had and received throughout my entire career.”

The roar of every big play from Kansas City 27-20 winThe game went 7-0 for the Chiefs and drew chants rivaling the hometown team.

“I don’t take this lightly, because it costs money to travel, it costs money to come to the games, and people want to show they support us,” Mahomes said. “We will show them the same support when we are in society.”

The crowd is in some ways a reflection of how the two teams have fared over the last five years, but the Chiefs certainly don’t seem to care.

“I am grateful to our fans and the support we received from them today,” said coach Andy Reid. “It’s always good to go on the road and you can have all that red there.”

Dressed in red or silver and black, fans at Allegiant were treated to a glitzy affair befitting the glory days of the Chiefs-Raiders.

“It’s a rivalry,” Mahomes said. “It goes back further than anyone on the football field. No matter what the records are, when you walk into this football game you know it’s going to be a fight. “You know there’s going to be a fight at any moment.”

Including the playoffs, Kansas City set a franchise record by winning 13 straight games. The last loss came against Las Vegas on Christmas Day last season, but the Chiefs answered the bell against an energetic Raiders team.

“Their head coach loves playing us,” Reid said. “These guys are getting excited and I’m glad our guys were able to respond to that.”

The Chiefs have never lost at Allegiant. They are 5-0 against the Raiders since the stadium opened in 2020, averaging 12.6 points per game, and also beat San Francisco in Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024.
