Election upside, More climate coverage: PD letters

Press Democrat readers comment on Trump’s victory and more.

The positive side of the election

EDITOR: The good thing about Donald Trump’s victory is that thugs would not attack the Capitol, defecating on the building, injuring more than 140 law enforcement officers, and causing $1.5 million in property damage.. In addition, Trump said he would pardon those convicted for participating in the insurrection, eliminating the taxpayer cost of further incarceration, and that’s it. Finally, instead of whining about a “stolen election,” Kamala Harris had the decency to call him and congratulate him, and by certifying the election results as required by our Constitution, he will facilitate the peaceful transfer of power, which is the cornerstone of our country. .

More climate coverage

EDITOR: Why can’t we see more about the catastrophic climate crisis in our media? I keep hearing that this is the new norm. That’s the best he can get. The threat of storms like Helene and Milton was predicted by scientists years ago. British media are going above and beyond to broadcast and report on the crisis we face. The weather forecast gets worse every night on the news, but only a small fraction of the problem is published in our newspapers or mentioned on news stations. The situation will only get worse if we continue to pump toxic smoke from fossil fuels into the atmosphere. Please be realistic and give more coverage to the causes of these devastating weather disasters.

Hearing is expected

EDITOR: On May 16, 2025, I will face more than five years in prison for rescuing Poppy, Ivy, Aster, and Azalea from the Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse in Perdue. I was arrested on felonies for taking them to care. I have worn a GPS ankle monitor for over 300 days while awaiting trial.

Most criminal defense strategies attempt to get the jury to question whether the defendant actually did what he is accused of. I will proudly testify and say that I did it. I entered the slaughterhouse, rescued four chickens from the transport cage, and left. I treated their wounds and shared their stories with the public.

I will tell the jury exactly what happened. It will be up to them to decide whether they believe what I did was a crime. I’m okay with whatever comes next because I know Poppy, Ivy, Aster and Azalea are safe, happy and free. I sincerely hope that Perdue will be prosecuted one day soon for what I believe are blatant crimes against animals.

changed forever

EDITOR: Here we are, just days after an election that will forever change the face of democracy in America. Twice this century the popular vote has been defeated by the peculiar constitutional quirk of the Electoral College. The popular vote has now been cast and a convicted felon, a serial marriage fraudster, a serial bankrupt and a sexual harasser have been elected by a razor-thin margin of 5 million votes, or 3.6% of the votes cast. If there’s a debate about college education, look at this number: 63% of those without college voted for the winning candidate. The American experiment praised by George Washington appears to have failed. We are divided beyond anything imaginable. Our striving for a “more perfect union” seems like a dream that will never come true.

Orwellian conclusion

EDITOR: George Orwell’s masterpiece “1984” It appears to be revived in 2024. The MAGA propaganda and misinformation machine has mastered the art of Newspeak and Doublethink. The election results show that a majority of voters have fallen for repeated conspiracy theories and false claims about stolen elections, voting irregularities, immigrant crime rates, a collapsing economy, late-term abortions, the deep state and enemies at home. Incessant lying, distortion of the truth, branding and name-calling had the desired effect; a manipulated reality that a desperate nation can only be saved by voting for the extremely stable genius Donald Trump. May God help us all.
