Malik Monk’s Official Injury Status for Kings-Spurs Match

Sacramento Kings achieved an important away win against Phoenix Suns Sunday wasn’t a fairytale outing for the Kings, however. Sacramento’s star duo of De’Aaron Fox and DeMar DeRozan showed how dangerous this team can be by scoring all 16 points the Kings scored in overtime.

Sacramento’s bench suffered a brutal blow in Sunday’s win when star sixth man Malik Monk went down with an ankle injury in the second quarter and did not return.

Monk has officially suffered a right ankle sprain and will miss Monday night’s away game. San Antonio Spurs.

Monk finished last season as the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year runner-up and has been a serious candidate for the award every year since arriving in Sacramento. Without Monk, Sacramento has a huge hole on their bench, and the Kings will face a serious test with him sidelined.

Sacramento’s starting lineup was one of the best in the NBA at the start of the new season, but its secondary was weak.

Monk averaged 13.6 points and 2.9 assists in the first nine games of the season and played 27 minutes per game. The only other real contributor off the bench for Sacramento has been defensive specialist Keon Ellis, and he may not have the tools to take on Monk’s offensive role.

At a time when the bench is more vital than ever, the Kings face a dangerous Spurs lineup in the second leg of a back-to-back. Sacramento’s stars will have to step up to plug the glaring hole in their second unit.
