Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames is now an unrestricted free agent, and many experts expect him to leave Milwaukee this winter.

The top team linked to Adames was the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers need a shortstop and have the money to bring him in. Adames would be an excellent addition to Los Angeles’ roster, but more big-time teams are committing to him.

In fact, the Dodgers could lose Adames to one of their Western rivals in the National League.

Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report recently predicted that Adames would sign with the San Francisco Giants instead of the Dodgers. A seven-year, $180 million contract is envisaged for the star defender.

“Buster Posey, the new president of baseball operations in San Francisco, said at GM meetings in San Antonio last week that he wants to address the shortstop position,” Kelly wrote. “Adames could sign as a shortstop in San Francisco and also add a much-needed breakthrough to coach Bob Melvin’s roster.”

With Buster Posey as the new president of baseball operations, the Giants appear to be a wild card this offseason. No one knows how aggressive the Giants will be, but Posey has expressed their willingness to improve.

Considering the fact that Posey has had so much success as a player, it’s easy to assume he’s eager to bring that same success back to San Francisco.

With that in mind, it’s not outlandish to speculate that the Giants could outbid the Dodgers to acquire Adames.
