Colorado Springs Veterans Day Parade

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) –

City of Colorado Springs holds Veterans Day Parade will will happen this year.

It was canceled at some point due to lack of participation.

But the snow is putting it ahead of when originally planned. It is now scheduled to start at noon on Saturday instead of 11 a.m.

“Let’s show the world that Colorado Springs is a city that honors its veterans with actions, not just words. Let’s make this year’s parade the biggest and best ever,” said Mayor Yemi Mobolade.

After the parade was cancelled, many people from the community came forward to support the event. New organizers Colorado International Events have been selected to take over the annual parade. The company has previous experience organizing events in the city, including the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

“We know this will work and we have a long-term goal to make this a destination event for years to come,” said John O’Donnell, Owner of Colorado International Events.

11 News spoke with other supporters of the event, including a service company with experience hosting the Veterans Day Parade.

“When the decision was made to sign up, there was no doubt we would make it happen,” said Mt Carmel Veterans Service Center Chief Operating Officer Paul Price.

City leaders say the parade’s return is due in part to contributions from private donors, in addition to the $28,700 given to the previous organizer.

Colorado Springs Veterans Day board earlier this month had to cancel The 25th Veterans Day Parade was held due to lack of attendance. The parade’s board announced that attendance has decreased since COVID-19.

Approximately 95,000 veterans call Colorado Springs home.
