Body of BJP leader found at party office in Bengal, woman arrested

KOLKATA: The body of the BJP leader was found at the party office in Usthi in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, a police officer said on Saturday.

Late Prithviraj Naskar was managing the party’s social media account in the region.

While the BJP pointed an accusatory finger at the TMC, the police said the motive for the murder could have been personal after arresting a woman in connection with the murder.

Naskar’s blood-soaked body was found at the party office on Friday night.

Family members said he had been missing since November 5.

A senior police officer said that the arrested woman confessed that she hit the deceased with sharp weapons, leading to his death.

“We are investigating whether the deceased had a relationship with the arrested person and whether he had any fights,” he told reporters.

The officer said a police team broke down the front door and locked a folding door from inside the party office before finding the body.

The suspected attacker must have escaped through the back door.

The police officer said that after the preliminary examination and tracking of her mobile phones, the woman was taken from a nearby area and she confessed to committing the crime during interrogation.

He said it was being investigated whether anyone else aided and abetted him.

After the murder, a verbal fight broke out between the BJP and TMC.

State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar told reporters that local TMC activists were behind Naskar’s murder and wanted to scare the saffron party’s supporters in the area.

In his post on X, Majumdar said, “Our struggle will continue until justice is served and the murderers of martyr Prithviraj are brought to light.

The BJP remains determined to end the bloodthirsty and oppressive rule of CM Mamata Banerjee in Bengal.

Senior TMC leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh alleged that the BJP knew the exact reason behind Naskar’s death but peddled lies involving the TMC.

Ghosh claimed in an X post that there were reports that the deceased had personal enmity with more than one person.

The TMC leader claimed that the injury on some parts of his body showed the attacker’s hostility and disdain towards the man and expressed hope that the investigation would cover all these angles.

Meanwhile, Naskar’s father claimed that his son earned the wrath of some local TMC activists and police after he put up banners demanding justice for the RG Kar hospital victim during the recent Durga Puja festival in the district.

“My son was warned by local TMC leaders that holding protests over the RG Kar issue during the festive season would have dire consequences,” the father said.
