Hall-Dale wins first Class C title

BANGOR — The Hall-Dale men’s soccer team completed its best season in its 45-year history on Saturday, thanks to a goal from sophomore Karter Eldridge off a corner kick from sophomore Reid Parlin.

The Bulldogs beat Washington Academy 1-0 for the Class C title at Cameron Stadium. The first Gold Ball for the Bulldogs (16-2-0) fell to Houlton in their lone loss in the Class C final in 2012.

With 24:10 left in the second half, Parlin hit a perfect corner kick in front of Washington’s (13-4-1) net. Eldridge was able to leap over the attack, head the ball and put enough power behind him to put it past goalkeeper Ethan Cates (10 saves).

Throughout the match, both teams encountered strong winds blowing from west to east. Hall-Dale won the opening coin toss and head coach Jesse Rowe elected to attack against the wind in the first half. It was a move that worked for the Bulldogs. Although the Raiders outscored Hall-Dale 6-1 in the first half, Bulldogs freshman goaltender Landon Gilbert had a great game, making saves on tough shots despite the wind, and finished the game with seven saves.
