What Happens at the End of Heretic?

He then digs into his arm to find a metal object that he believes indicates that he is an artificial human, echoing the “Prophet’s” claim that life is merely a simulation.

However, Paxton explains that the object was birth control, and also refutes that the Prophet’s resurrection was a magic trick achieved by replacing the poisoned woman with another woman. He later said he believed the changeling’s claim that “none of this was real” was a way to alert women to Reed’s trick, prompting the man to improvise the simulation detail to cover his tracks.

After finding the secret door that Reed managed to fake, Paxton discovers several more women Reed is holding captive in his basement. There, he correctly infers that this whole incident is Reed’s way of explaining to women what he believes is “the one true religion”: control.

Paxton takes the chance to stab Reed with a letter opener, but as he tries to escape, he catches him and stabs him in the stomach. Before he can make another fatal move, Barnes appears to resurrect to kill Reed before he falls to his eventual death. After Paxton finally steps outside the house, he sees a butterfly land on his fingertip, but in the next and final shot, the butterfly disappears.

How Does Mr. Reed Conclude “The One True Religion”?

One of the reasons critics praise Infidel as one best A24 horror movies Hugh Grant’s deceptively charming performance as Mr. Reed is also evident. He constantly reminds them that they are free to go, puts a new obstacle in their way, and provides subtle details that lead them to choose the very door of “Faith” that he hopes they will choose, even though he curses them in the end. The conference on organized religion suggests the opposite.

Reed’s examination of – or rather indictment of – various beliefs and their interrelationships is undoubtedly fascinating, especially for his similar approach. He compares the melodic similarities between The Hollies’ song “The Air That I Breathe”, the 1992 Radiohead song “Creep” and Lana Del Rey’s 2017 song “Get Free” with the idea that Christianity can largely be seen as a repetition of Judaism. etc., which can be seen as a repetition of Islam.

According to Mr. Reed, religion is nothing more than a man-made organization built on the influence of pre-existing ideas, which by the power of suggestion appear as truth to people. The question is: Does the movie believe this?

What the Butterfly Represents

How do we come to our own conclusions?’ I think the ending of the film presents this question in a very vague but perhaps very clear way. There may be three, four, five different interpretations of how you come away from that movie. And what we hope is that your interpretation of this reflects your own contradictions or your own reasoning about why you believe what you believe.

Based on the above statement from the co-writer and co-director, Mr. Reed’s seemingly anti-religious tirade is not intended to be perceived as actually anti-religious, nor is the film intended to argue that way. Infidel it is simply an examination of the complexity of all forms of belief, and like the butterfly, the choice of whether to believe it or not is left to you.

Scott Beck and Bryan Woods have had pretty good careers so far; They broke into the mainstream as 2018’s co-writers.
