Preparation for Boeing B777-9s

As airlines around the world prepare to welcome Boeing’s latest B777-9 wide-body jets into their fleets, some concrete taxiways and aircraft stands at Changi Airport will be retrofitted to support the new aircraft.

This is because the B777-9’s wheel load, which is even greater than that of the Airbus A380 superjumbo, puts more pressure on the airport’s pavements.

Approximately one-third of the 189 aircraft at the airport where aircraft are parked are currently capable of supporting new aircraft.

Larger arrival immigration halls in T1

Originally planned to be completed by 2025, the expansion of the two migrant arrival halls at T1 is now expected to be completed around 2026.

When the project was announced in 2023, the CAG said it would increase the number of automated lanes in each immigration hall from 12 to over 40. He said the larger space would ease bottlenecks, especially during busy periods.

More check-in queues at Terminal 4

The new check-in queue, which is under construction in the departure hall of Terminal 4, is planned to be completed by the end of 2024. The new counters, which will come with self-service kiosks and automatic baggage delivery, will increase check-in capacity by 15 percent. and allow T4 to accommodate up to 2,500 passengers per hour.
